We have had a couple of big rains recently and we have seen water leaking down through the eaves where the balcony is. I remember from the building report that there was some water damage up there, so I went up into the roof space to have a look. Next I bought some pond liner, dismantled the railing around the balcony and covered the whole thing with liner. There is a big rain event, 20-50 mm due next week so we will see if it does the job. We have 3 options, get it repaired and put the rails back up, get the roof put back and the door taken out, or maybe some kind of sun room or green house/cat play area to sit up there. I guess I will have to get some quotes. This is before and after.
I am still tracing out all the different outdoor taps and trying to figure out where the plastic pipe is buried that comes in from the mains. So far I have found 15 water taps, one is connected to the house near the laundry, and the rest come directly from the mains. There is one water cut off at the annex and another outside the laundry at the house.
There are four taps out in the back paddock and you can clearly see where the pipe is buried, there is a red cut off near the fence so that you can feed all the taps in the paddock, one in the vegetable garden, one near the carport, and one at the big water tank next to the shed. Including those 3 there are 7 that can be fed from the tank. I fired up the pump at the tank and ran some water through, but it’s nowhere near mains pressure.
There is another tap on the mains side of the red cut off that can fill a trough just inside the fence, one more near the fruit trees, another near the large callistemon at the corner, and one inside the shade house. Then there is one either side of the driveway, one near the front door, and finally another down near the mains. As far as I can tell the main line comes from the water mains at the front corner of the property, goes diagonally across the yard to the annex, and from there down to the corner of the house by the laundry. I think there would be a join midway between one of the driveway taps and the one at the corner of the house. Still not sure where the one near the front door comes from. I may have to do some careful digging as I would like to put in a few more cut off valves.
