Well, not actually a bonfire, I’m just burning off the remains of the stumps and tree roots out in the back paddock.
It’s been 10 days without any Covid-19 cases here in Tasmania, 10 active cases remaining, 4 of those in hospital but not in ICU. All cases are still in the North West where they had the Ruby Princess outbreak. All of Tasmania’s 13 deaths are related either to the Ruby Princess or overseas travellers from the U.S. etc.
They are slowing starting to ease a lot of the restrictions here and on the mainland, but there are still some different approaches to interstate travel. It may be many more weeks before Tasmania eases border controls. There is some talk of opening up travel between Australia and New Zealand since both countries have pretty well contained the outbreak. Australia, population 25 million has had 102 deaths, New Zealand, population 5 million has had 21. Whatever happens we are all still advised to observe hygiene protocols and respect social distancing in the longer term.
I can’t see them allowing other overseas travellers for a long time, as it is basically uncontrolled in many places. I just checked the Johns Hopkins site – 98,034 deaths in the U.S. and 1,529 in Texas – same population as Australia.

Back to the bonfire, seems to be going well. Nice and toasty given it’s only 5 Celsius out this morning. Good view of the area where the brush pile was, and to the right you can just see where I dug the stumps up. While it was burning I dug up the small stump near the fence that I had to dodge with the mower, and burnt it as well. I decided to go ahead and put grass seed out in all the bare areas since we are expecting rain tonight and for the rest of the week. I may put in some more potatoes to bake later.
