There are trees and branches down everywhere in the parks, walking tracks, and the bush around Launceston. Some businesses like nurseries lost a lot of stock when all the shade cloth structures came down, and parts of the roofs at Bunnings and Officeworks were damaged. They don’t really have to build to a snow load rating here, but overall most places were pretty lucky. Our neighbour Patrick has at least one big tree down in his place and of course if you drive around this area there are places that are even worse. It was fairly thick heavy snow, a couple of inches at least I think, and because it has been cool, anywhere that was in the shade yesterday still had a fair bit, and there are even patches today. I took a photo yesterday of Eva with some snow still in our front yard.

I started cutting up some of the stuff that was down over the fence between us and Patrick yesterday, and used the small chainsaw and a pruning saw to cut up some of the stuff behind the garage and annex, and this morning I spent some time trimming off all the broken stuff at the front and other side of the property next to our other neighbour Scott. I haven’t even started on anything in the back paddock, that will have to wait for a while. I will finish dragging all the stuff I trimmed to one area and just leave it in a pile and get everything in the front done before I start back there. There is just too much to sort out into firewood or mulching, so there may be a few more bonfires coming up.

We had two more different guys come around to look at the solar installation options, but unless they can really pull something out of the bag it looks like we will be going with the second quote we got.  I’m still working on the last of the 2 big trees that completely shade the roof of the annex, and should have it down by next week if I have enough time and energy.
I see that the U.S. now has 160,000 dead from the virus, and Texas has jumped to 5th place overall with 8,547 deaths, and may soon have more than Massachusetts with 8,691. The outbreak in Victoria continues and Australia now has 255 deaths. Still nothing here in Tasmania.
