We have had a bit more rain here over the past few days, and it is too boggy to take the lawn tractor and it’s little trailer out the back to haul some of that wood in. I did pile up a bunch more of the branches into a stack out there to dry out. There is just one small area that needs to be cleaned up out there and that will be the whole back area finished. I am also making a big pile of the smaller branches I cut up that could eventually be fuel for an outdoor fire pit. The rest of the smaller branches I have stacked up I will use my Hansa C7 mulcher on when things dry out a bit.

I planted out a whole bed in the garden with broad beans, and some more rows of radish, carrot, and beetroot. The giant butter swede seeds that John sent me are now coming up, as well as some turnip I planted. I also rescued some lettuce weeds from the area where I planted the new radish and put them out between the broad bean rows. I still need to plant my red cabbage at some stage. I think a rabbit or potoroo got into the shade house and nibbled on Eva’s seedlings as well as my Bird of Paradise, so I have to remember to keep the door shade pulled all the way down. I should put the seedlings out soon, but we are expecting a few more frosts later in the week.

Yesterday I took down the rest of the tall tree near the driveway and cut it up. Today I split up some of the irregular pieces into firewood, and the rest I have up near the edge of the driveway to see what they look like. The big stack out the back has some pieces about the same size that I can use as well. Eve went out to the supermarket today and says she didn’t really like it being so close to the edge when she backed down into the carport, so I may have to move it back a foot or so. I have all that raw material to work with, I’m sure I can come up with something.

The outbreak in Victoria continues, bringing Australia’s total deaths to over 465. Still only the one guy in hospital here in Tasmania, and life is pretty normal. They have decided to keep the borders closed now till at least December 1 and tighten up the exemptions for essential workers, but for now it seems to be working OK.  U.S. has 170,000 deaths and rising. At this rate it will be well over 200,000 by the election.
