We finally have our PV panels installed, all 22 of them. They are 300w Q CELLS G5+ panels, total is 7.26 Kw. The inverter is supposed to be a 6 Kw SMA MPPT Single Phase, but they installed a 5 Kw. The 6 Kw is on back order and will just snap in as a replacement in 4 to 6 weeks. The new meter should be installed in the next 7 to 10 days, and then we can turn everything on. In the test it was putting out about 4.8 KWh for a brief period. It should do a lot better than that earlier in the day and in the summer months. We are still on the 2 tariffs, Residential and Hot Water/Heating, but once I’m happy with the calculations we may go over to the Time of Use tariff. The system is wired in to the Residential tariff which is a higher rate, so it should offset a lot of our usage. We may look at getting a battery next financial year but it depends on the cost and the calculations.
This is something we have wanted for a long time, and we had budgeted for it when we bought the property.

Still working on the garden project, and planted some good tomato and pepper seedlings that Eva bought, doing general cleanup, mulching, etc. Finally did the bonfire out the back, and that would be the last of the rubbish from the snow back on August 5. Incidentally we got an $80 cheque from TasNetworks for a major outage that day. I don’t remember if our power went off or not, but I suppose they just did it for everyone in the area. The teller at the bank had seen a LOT of them.
