The retaining wall is basically finished, and the first section of the garden screen is up. I may put up the rest of the vertical posts this week and then continue with the screening on the other side. I decided against using the expensive Ekodeck or Modboard product, instead going with my own DIY method. I bought 2.4 m treated fence palings at $3.35 apiece, painted them with fence paint, and ripped them in half with the circular saw. After painting the cut edges I nailed them up with some galvanised nails I already had. It looks reasonabley professional, and a 4.8 m section of horizontal slats only costs $60 for the timber, maybe $10 for the paint, and of course my labour is free.
We finally got the 6 Kw inverter installed last week, and today we got the new meter, so we are officially feeding back into the grid from the solar panels. It’s cloudy today, but after only a couple of hours we have made a massive $0.82. At this rate we may have to consider retiring.
Not much else going on here. The plovers hatched out last week and at one time we could see 3 of them running around, but for the last few days there has only been one. They have a lot of predators to contend with, Ravens, Kookaburras, Butcher birds, Hawks, Quolls, and even feral cats. Last year when we got here they only has the one juvenile bird with them, so maybe that’s pretty normal. The Tasmanian Native Hens have 3 young ones that we can see, but they can have several clutches a year under the right conditions.
I have done a bit of mowing in the front, and hope to start on the back paddock soon as the grass is getting long. I’ll try to avoid the plover area till the baby gets a bit bigger.
