We had just over an inch, 28 mm overnight Tuesday, enough to fill up the pond for a couple of days anyway. The big plastic tank by the shed is also full again, says it is 14,100 litres, about 3,725 U.S. gallons. I managed to get the entire property mowed and all the gutters cleaned out beforehand, so that helped. Since then we have had clear sunny days and cold mornings, it was -2 celsius this morning and is supposed to be -4 tomorrow. We had some frost but the hens didn’t seem to mind as they were out bright and early. The weather is supposed to continue into next week but at least we are getting some solar PV from it, 17 kW yesterday.

As of Wednesday Eva and I are now about 65% protected from covid-19 after our first dose, and should be about 90% after we finally get the second dose. It’s just as well, they had yet another outbreak in Victoria and now that are in their 4th lockdown for 7 days. All the borders are closed again and no one can come across from Victoria anyway. This is getting ridiculous, the federal government knew that they had to manage quarantine in dedicated facilities but instead they left it up to the states to do hotel quarantine because they didn’t want to pay for it. The vaccine rollout is still a shambles, they never had a sense of urgency at all, now everyone is scrambling to get the jab. No one can fathom just how poorly managed everything has been. They have just dedicated $600 million to a new gas fired power station that is not needed, just to satisfy their “base”, but can’t spend anything on managing the virus properly.

We took some photos of the lunar eclipse here on Tuesday night, some of them turned out OK. I was just propping my arm against a post, but you are supposed to set the camera to manual, on a tripod, and put the timer on. Maybe next time. It was a very clear night, you can see a lot more than we could over in Mornington and Mount Eliza, there is almost no light pollution here at all. Ove all the various celestial events since we have been here, this is the first one we actually had a good clear look at. I’ve attached a couple of photos.

Eva won yet another prize from the local radio station, this time it was “Bunch for Lunch” with the hosts and some staff and other couples at the Waterview Hotel in Beauty Point. That’s where the McGaughey’s lived for a couple of years when my dad was working on the construction of a wharf at Bell Bay across the river. It’s about a 30 minute drive up towards the coast from Legana. It was a good lunch, we had a good time, got to meet a few new people, and I got a photo of where we used to live. In one of them you can see a low building on the waterfront, then just up the bank from that is the house. I have another looking across at Bell Bay, and then one of us with the radio people, Glen and Jules from LAFM. It was a nice place and we will probably drive out there for lunch again soon.
