We’ve has some cold mornings, but otherwise clear sunny days recently, so I thought I’d tackle the remaining stump from the trees I took down before installing the solar panels. Easy peasy.
It definitely helped a lot to wait 2 years before doing this as the stump had died and even rotted a bit in places. I found the easiest way was to work my way around cutting the roots with the mattock as I went. Once I had most of the roots out I used the block splitter, wedges, and the big crowbar to split off pieces of the stump. I like to clean up as I go rather than leave all the mess till the end, it gives a sense of progress. The wood from the stump was not usable in the wood heater so it was burnt in the fire pit. I’ve got the hole filled in with some grass seed scattered over it, but it may need more soil when it settles a bit. We are looking for a nice tree to plant near the edge of it.
