I finally got the door to the balcony removed and everything blocked off and all the new tin up on the roof. There is an issue with the final overlap onto the old roofing as it seems to be a thinner grade of roofing iron and so is flatter than the new stuff. I’m not sure how to fix it at the moment. In any case I have had to open up the new roofing on one edge as it appears a brush tailed possum got into the roof space sometime while I had it open. We heard some noises and I went into the crawl space off the sewing room and saw him, so I opened up the roof hoping he would go out. We are calling him Elvis, and I didn’t see him yesterday morning, so we hoped that Elvis had left the building. About 9 PM on New Years Eve I went up and had another look in the crawl space behind our bedroom, and there he was. He went down towards the front of the house so I waited a bit and went outside to look and there he was with his little face poking out of the opening. After about 10 minutes he took off so I was able to close up the roofing iron, so 2022 ended well for all of us here, and Elvis HAS left the building after two days. But wait, that was actually Pricilla. About 30 minutes later we heard more noises up there, so I went up and lifted the tin again, went into the crawl space and saw a large possum’s bushy tail leaving through the gap. I went outside and saw him on the roof so I closed it up again. Finally, both Elvis AND Priscilla had left the building!
