It’s been quite cold here and we have been using firewood at a faster rate than I had anticipated, even with the improvements like the double glazing. I ended up getting another load delivered back in July and stacked it all up. I’m hoping it will last through this month and into Spring. I think in 2024 I will just get two loads delivered in February or March and be done with it. It has definitely been worth it with the wood heater and everything, we have already forgotten how bad it was before we had it.

I have been doing a bit more work on the vegetable garden relocation, I finally managed to dig up and move the olive tree, grape vine, and passionfruit vine. The olive tree had very shallow roots and now has a new home in the fenced off areas where the chickens are. The grape and passionfruit are relocated to the area behind the shed where the new garden will be. I have it all marked out and will soon start to put up the enclosure for it. In the old garden I have another couple of areas levelled out ready for grass seed, but there is still a lot of soil to move further down. There is a lot of wheelbarrow work for that, but maybe if I just treat it as exercise I can get through it in a week or two.

The chickens are still laying, usually either one egg every day or two eggs every two days. They don’t seem to mind the new olive tree in their space, but I have it well protected so they can’t dig around it. I still have a couple of small grape vines I dug up and might put in there as well. If they grow they grow, otherwise I’m not too bothered. I also need to mow in that area as the grass is getting fairly tall. According to Eva the earliest the plovers could hatch their eggs would be Monday which coincides with another possible frosty morning. I suppose they will be OK, this is what they do.
