A frosty morning on September 1, but things are clearly starting to warm up here. It was 9 degrees overnight, and we briefly hit 18 yesterday, although today is a bit windy.
I finally have everything cleaned up from all the snow damage, apart from a couple of piles of brush behind the annex that I need to mulch up with the mighty Hansa C7. There are still lots of broken branches hanging up in the trees, and occasionally one will fall, so you have to be careful walking around certain trees.  The place is looking almost normal again.
I now have a bit of time to start working on some other projects, so apart from moving some plants around in the flower beds, we have decided to screen in the area where you look out the kitchen window by the shade room.  The last straw was when the neighbour moved a bunch of junk up the back towards his orchard area, including one old car. We still plan to plant some stuff down there that will block the view, but think the quickest solution is to repair the retaining wall and put up some horizontal screens, which apart from blocking the view will create a nice sheltered area we can enjoy outside, in private. I stuck up an old piece of lattice to get an idea what it would be like and am looking at various photos to make a plan.
John and Larraine came up from Hobart yesterday and brought us an aloe plant like we used to have at Mount Eliza. He has been very helpful with suggestions on how we could make that area nice. They came up to visit a friend who has a nursery out near Launceston Airport, that was damage by the snow back on August 5. He sent a photo which I have included. We may head down there soon to pick up a trailer I have been looking at, plus maybe some more plants, and also use John’s discount to get a few more building materials. I’ve been taking a few more photos around the place, trying to get a bit creative.
We are once again virus free in Tasmania, and the drawbridge is still basically up on the moat. The guy that was in hospital in Burnie recovered after returning from surgery in Melbourne. Not so good over in Victoria which is still in lockdown, 589 deaths bringing Australia to 678 overall. Still  not as bad as the U.S. with all the craziness, nearly 186,000 dead, over 13,000 just in Texas.
Going out to lunch at the Legana Tavern later, so glad to be here in Tasmania!
