I got an email from the guy about the bandicoot habitat, they have been delayed because of staff shortages, etc. but we should get our management plan sometime in January so that is something to look forward to. At the moment it’s very dry out in the area where I will be planting everything, so I hope when we get the stuff planted in April or May it will establish enough to last through the next summer after that. The grass has grown just enough that I probably need to mow one more time, probably next week and early in the morning while it’s still cooler. From Tuesday the entire state is in the fire permit period but we will probably be in a total fire ban by February.

I finally received the new roofing sheets for the balcony and have started work on that this weekend. We had toyed with the idea of putting up some sort of sunroom there to replace the balcony, but since the balcony wasn’t even legal in the first place it would be a big hassle to have anything else approved. It should look a lot better with just the roof there and we will organise to get a new window that covers both the area over the stairs and where the door was once I remove it.  I have pulled a lot of the sides of the balcony apart and it was so poorly constructed I can see why it was leaking so badly. It wasn’t leaking from the floor as much as from the sides where it didn’t have enough flashing to stop the rain going into the dip on the corrugated sheets. They had screwed the flashing into the dips and the wood underneath is black from the water damage.
