I went out and checked on all the plants in the paddock and it looks like half a dozen had some frost damage but everything else looks OK. I think we will probably lose a couple of those. At least everything is well watered, we had 12.6mm/.5″ rain yesterday. I didn’t finish all the mulching and I have a trailer load of it in the big shed which I might be able to take out there later this week. I will probably need another couple from the big mulch pile as well. I guess someone from the conservation department will come out in the next week or so to have a look at everything.

In the meantime I have been working on the rehabilitation of the vegetable garden, removing everything and returning it to grass. So far I have taken down all the roofing iron around it and all the upright poles and stakes. I’m stacking everything up near the chicken run while I decide what to do next. I plan to dig out all the dirt from the raised beds and put it in a big pile somewhere as well as using some to smooth out around the perimeter of the area. Next I will remove the frames for the raised beds and dismantle the retaining sleepers in the bottom corner. I have plans to relocate the olive tree, the passionfruit vine, and the grape vine. The grape vine is growing right above the french drain to the septic system and I think the excess moisture is what causes the grapes to burst every year. I think the vines are hardy enough you can put them somewhere else and they will start putting out again in a few years. I may put the old raspberry canes on a for sale or free site to see if someone wants them.
