It’s still warm and windy here with no real rain to speak of. We are expecting a fairly warm, almost hot day tomorrow and then there is a very slight chance of rain. We had a nice little feed of fried okra last week, and I have been picking a few daily since then. I set up some drippers just for the garden bed where they are, so I guess that was what was lacking. Last night we had a larger serve of it, maybe even too much for just the two of us. It looks like there are about 25 more I could pick this coming week so another feed coming up next weekend. This will be the best crop of okra since being back in Australia, so I think I have the perfect spot for it now, but the warm weather has certainly helped.

All the plants out in the paddock seem to be doing well and I can’t see that I am losing any due to the dryness, but I may water them anyway this week. I am having to water all the citrus every couple of days and it looks like some of the finger limes will be ready soon. Everything in the shade house has to be watered as well as it gets fairly warm there. I have stuff there I would love to plant out but I’m going to have to wait till autumn or winter when it’s a bit wetter and cooler or they will just dry up and die. I picked about 2 kg of the grapes that grow by the carport, and although we have been eating some I decided to try drying some in the fan forced oven. I’ve had a batch in for one day and they are just starting to shrivel a bit so I will turn the oven back on when we start to get a bit more solar later this morning. I’ve just worked out the electricity bill for February 10 and we will have another $58 in credit making it $202 in credit in total. This is all due to using the battery creatively since we only use 0.3 kWh peak power compared with 71.88 kWh this time last year.

We are seeing lots of very young wallabies in the evenings but no bandicoots, however every morning there are more and more of the little holes they dig looking for cicadas and other insects. We have seen a blue tongued lizard out on the patio nearly every day, sunning for a while before it moves to somewhere for a bit of shade. I think it’s been a couple of years since we had one near the house like this.
