I finally “finished” the new hen house and they have been in there two nights now. The first night I had to catch a couple and put them in but the rest were already there. They laid 3 eggs the next morning and seem to be happy using the automatic door last night and this morning. There was a special rebate deal that if you send a photo of the door they would refund you $100 as they are trying to build up a photo gallery for their website. Yesterday I finished demolishing the old coop and today I just have a bit of clean-up to do as I have trashed the place a bit. I may use some of the old coop materials to build a table to go in the carport or something. I already used a couple of long pieces for the sides of the perches I built for the chickens. I still have to finish off a bit inside the new hen house, I have an area where I can check the nest box and also go inside the main area if I need to.

For the last bit of finishing off with the new hen house, I put on an extra bit of roofing, the roof from the old garden shed, to protect where they come up the ramp to the automatic door. We are due some fairly heavy rain tonight and Tuesday and hopefully everything will stay dry, the overhead shelter is right at the side of the house now so it gives them a place to be outside that is fairly dry. The door seems to be working well, I don’t even have to check them anymore in the mornings and evenings. I moved one of the WiFi cameras inside the hen house so I can see the chickens either in the nest box or on the perch. I can even zoom in to check for eggs all while sitting at my desk. The camera can also swivel around to see outside into the yard.
